SInce we are dealing with chemical substances in our homes, we only know about the benefits of them. BUt, have you ever thought that it can cause some harm, too? Here are some examples.
HOUSEHOLD BLEACH :
- It contains 5% of hypochlorite ( NaCLO)
- also has calcium hypochlorite or CA(ClO)2
- oxidizing agent
- CAN CAUSE IRRITATION ON AIR PASSAGE
AMMONIA (NH3)
- Ammonia is in the
a. glass and window cleaners
b. floor polishers.
c. stainless steel cleaners
- It can cause watery and itchy eyes.
- It contains powerful smell that can harm our lungs.
- It can cause burns.
- TO AVOID EXPOSURE PLACE IT AWAY FROM PEROXIDE.
ACID AND BASES
-Fruits contain ascorbic acid
- a. glass and window cleaners
b. rust removal products
c. concrete cleaner
- Muriatic acid- lower concentration of hydrochloric acid
base - sodium hydroxide - strong and corrosive
-can cause burns
OTHER MATERIALS:
a. Paint Removers - contains methylene chloride which is cancer-causing agent.
b. Pesticide and herbicide - contains calcium polisulfide
-can cause headache, kidney and liver disfunction.
DANGEROUS REACTION :
* Never mix household bleach with ammonia - it will produce CHLORAMINE ( NaClO + NH3)
*NaClO + HCl will produce chlorine gas which irritates the mucus membrane.
*chlorine gas + H2O - hypochlorous acid and hrdrochloric acid
* Don't throw bleach containers .
